Power BI Dashboard in a Day (DIAD) Training

Power BI is a business analytics service that gives you a single view of your business data, with the ability to monitor the health of your business using live dashboards, create rich interactive reports and access your data on the go, from your mobile devices.

This one-day course covers the capabilities of Power BI with the goal of helping you understand how to analyse your data in a rich and compelling way as well as to be able to create your first reports/dashboards.

Course Outline

    • Connect to, import, & transform data from a variety of sources
    • Define business rules & KPIs
    • Data transformations in M
    • Introduction to DAX
    • Creating Data Visualisations
    • Creating and sharing dashboards with others
    • Publishing to the Power BI service
    • Practice with your own data. We encourage you to bring your own data in a CSV or Excel format, to the workshop. The last part of the course allows you time to build reports and dashboards using your own data with the support of your instructor.

  • “Really helpful to have mix of walk-through of early labs, time to work through, plus demos and individual help.”
  • “I loved having the flexibility to do it in my own time and I think the support room system worked well. The presenters were knowledgeable and clear in how they presented the content.”
  • “Good pace – and helpful facilitators. The virtual event works really well!”
  • “Self-paced/self-timed allowing time to digest and learn features of the product, interspersed with some useful, relevant demos and great use of Zoom to have surgery break-out rooms to trouble-shoot problems with reports being developed.”
  • “Really insightful and good amount covered. I have used Power BI a lot and I still learnt a lot of new things.”
  • “Team was very engaging and knowledgeable.”
  • “Well structured, great datasets available for completion of tasks as well as further exploration. Presentation was a great balance of self-paced progress and tutored guidance.”
  • “The one day was a rare example [of] how a such an event should be run. Well organised. Good, relevant content. Well done!”
  • “The hands-on labs have been really helpful and helps with remembering the material taught along with the lab manuals that we can keep for reference. The walkthroughs were also really good for introducing us to the Power BI environment.”
  • “Very well presented with lots of opportunities to ask questions. Labs were also very good.”
  • “Finally gave me time to focus on understanding Power BI and the sample data meant I could just kick on with using the available transformation tools. The Labs take a while if you are trying to actually take it all in but well worth it and will most likely refer back to the labs when looking at my own data! Really great day. Ian’s data related to Paragliding was brilliant- so good to have relatable content to understand how Power BI brings value- specifically the point on where most ‘unsafe moments’ occur.”
  • “Speakers were clear and to the point, but not rushed. Never made any questions seem silly or small. Walkthroughs were valuable and labs were really well put together to guide you through different areas of Power Bi. Plenty of opportunity to get advice and support, never having to compete with other attendees.”
