Some of the Altis Melbourne Team attended an indoor rock climbing event on the 28th February at Hard Rock in the CBD. What a sensational venue it was.....you could climb whilst watching the peak hour traffic jam outside and think how lucky am I missing all the traffic and being able to scale a 100 foot sheer wall instead! Winner!!
Well the event started off with a few basics being explained by the instructor. Although most of us caught on pretty quickly, there were a couple of slow learners in the group whom shall remain nameless. After figuring out how to tie a figure of eight knot, clip on a caribiner and belay our climbing partner, we set off with great enthusiasm to scale the highest peaks.
Peter seemed very confident clipping on to his rope and stepping up the wall like the proverbial "rat up a drain pipe". We were so impressed as we looked to the heavens and stood in awe of his ascendency skills. It was only sometime after we discovered, not only had he climbed before, but he owned a personally autographed climbing harness, shoes and chalk bag. He was heard mumbling something about Ed Hillary and he chewing the yak fat and sharing many a yarn over a base camp fire.
Others in the team displayed great determination with Matheus climbing up the walls injured and going down them in an even worse physical state. Poor lad managed to further damage his knee but not his sense of humour....... too much Samba in the mother country!
Randima and Anastasia climbed several of the more difficult stages and really showed the boys how it was done. Meanwhile Jesse, in true competitive spirit just wouldn't be beaten by the wall and kept pushing ever upward until he reached the summit.
It was a lot of fun and provided a chance for our newer employees to get to know everyone.
